I’ve just released a new book! But before getting to that, here’s the backstory…
When I first wanted to move abroad back in 2014, I was working in operations at Bazaarvoice, an amazing tech company based in Austin. At the time, we had several overseas offices, but our operations function was centralized and no openings were available outside of the United States.
I knew I had to find another path.
I started researching and planning for a move out to Asia, but I wasn’t quite sure where I’d end up. Hong Kong and Singapore were the two front-runners in my mind, so that year I traveled to both cities to see if I could picture myself living in either. Surprisingly enough, I preferred Singapore! So I started planning to move there the following year.
But as I began researching for the move, I ran into a big problem.
There were very few practical, end-to-end resources detailing how to move abroad. Sure, there were plenty of articles explaining “how to get a job in another country” or “how to deal with culture shock”, but most of these pieces were short on specific, practical, and actionable advice.
I made my way through the job-searching process by feverishly networking, researching, and speaking with anyone who had connections in Singapore. After months of searching, I eventually landed a great gig at LinkedIn, but it didn’t come easily.
Even after I moved, I faced challenges. Singapore was an amazing place to live, but I found it hard to build a new life from the ground-up at first, and battled loneliness and health issues as I sought to adapt to my new environment.
Nearly three years later, I’m still based in Singapore and loving life here in Asia. That said, making the move initially sure wasn’t very easy (or simple). As I reflected back on my move, I realized that a concrete and actionable guide would’ve made a huge difference in making the move more achievable.
To that end, I decided to write a book on how you can move anywhere.
It’s called “The World is Your Home“, and it demystifies the entire process of moving abroad. I’ve covered just about everything here – from finding a job, to arranging your finances, to settling into an unfamiliar culture. In addition to the exact strategies and resources I used to move abroad, you’ll also find lots of fun anecdotes from my own experience of moving to Singapore for the first time.
Since this is a fun eBook, I’m making this super affordable. To that end, through the end of this week, I’ll be giving this eBook away for free. After this week, the price will go up to $2.99, which is still a bargain!
If you’d like to download the book and leave a review on Amazon, it would mean a lot as I’m still in the early stages of launching this.
And if you’re thinking about moving abroad yourself or have any questions around making the move, feel free to drop me a note.
As a bonus, I’ll be updating this eBook with my latest findings and resources twice a year – so once you download this on Kindle, you’ll also receive any additional updates at no cost.
Much more to come on the writing front soon, but I wanted to share this with you all first.
